After years of advocacy on behalf of Ontario’s registered dental hygienists, the ODHA’s board and staff are EXTREMELY excited to share the government’s announcement, which is moving forward with the next phase in making scope expansion for registered dental hygienists a reality.
The government has officially directed the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) to begin the work required to support the expansion of scope of practice, including enabling registered dental hygienists to:
– Prescribe radiographs;
– be a Radiation Protection Officer; and
– prescribe and administer local anesthesia by injection in the orofacial complex.
Today’s announcement has come about through the combined initiative of ODHA and CDHO.
We thank Minister Sylvia Jones for her leadership on this initiative and look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the government and the CDHO to enable RDHs to practise more thoroughly within their scope of practice and provide important preventive oral care services to more Ontarians.
ODHA is the voice of the profession in Ontario, and we advocate for you to practise to your full scope of practice and expertise.
We are here for you!
